Yoga Can Be Helpful In Getting Your Little Ones Ready for School
Getting kids ready for school is no easy task, especially if your little ones have enjoyed some holidays and have totally forgotten all about dressing up in the morning and getting ready quickly. After parents have gone through all the effort of filling in the school supplies and crossing the list of dress requirements of their kids for school, the adjustment to school routine begins. While most kids are excited to go back to school and meet their friends while they explore the school playground equipment, most parents are getting more and more anxious on making sure that this transition from holidays to school routine is easy for their children. So here are some helping tools for the parents and for children to make that happen. These yoga tips would allow you to manage your stress and will help you in keeping your little ones calm and excited about school.
Just Breathe
Parents are exceptionally good in getting over anxious and worrisome when it comes to their kids. Heavy panting or even breathing through mouth can be a sign of high anxiety levels. When the body acts in an anxious way, the other systems automatically get into a fight or flight mode. While this might be unintentional and most definitely unnecessary, it can become a source of hindrance in the daily functioning and even peaceful thinking.
Therefore it is always a good idea to keep your body in a calm state so despite your mental pressure your body does not start to act under pressure. Learn to breathe deeply through your nose. It will fill the diaphragm and activate the parasympathetic nervous system which will send a signal of calmness to your body. Teach the same thing to your kids to help them with their anxieties as well. If your body is at peace, you will not only be in a better physiological state but also in a better psychological state. The best part is that if you and your children know how to keep yourself calm, then you will be able to have this advantage throughout the school year for all anxieties, not just the starting routine of the year or the day.
Keep a Balance
The second most important thing to learn is how to keep your life in balance. This is not related to your sympathetic or parasympathetic systems, but it has everything to do with your mind and body. Children are constantly struggling to keep their school life in balance, literally and figuratively. They try to hold still on the playground structures and attempt to keep their studies and friendships in harmony. Parents also are always caught up in the efforts to balance every part of their work life, domestic life and children’s lives and so on. Therefore, make your body to the work for you by learning some balancing poses in yoga.
Start with standing on two feet with equal weight divided between both feet. Then balance on one leg and bend the knee of the other leg brining the foot up to the inner thigh of the leg on which you are standing or lower it by the ankle. Place both your hands by your heart and search for a point that is not moving. When you feel stabilized in this position then extend your hands upwards and inhale a few times through your nose. Repeat the process on the other leg. There are many such balancing poses and you can experiment with whichever makes you feel better.
Keep It Light
Doing yoga doesn’t have to be a complicated or cumbersome. Just make it a routine to add a couple of minutes every morning along with your kids, and you will see how much improvement it brings into your and your children’s lives.
