Spend a Week in NYC
Commonly known as "The City that Never Sleeps", New York City is an energetic destination that's rich with charming culture and fascinating history. With so many things to see and do in this vibrant city, area residents claim that it could take months before you even scratch the surface.
When you only have a week to take everything in, you might be wondering how to make the most of your limited time visiting in order to create the adventure of a lifetime. Here are a few fabulous suggestions to ensure that you embark on an NYC journey you'll never forget!
Central Park
Central Park is an excellent place to begin your NYC adventure. With over 800 magnificently manicured acres of gorgeous greenery, you could easily lose yourself relaxing serenity as you discover the many faces of this world-famous landmark. Wander aimlessly through the Strawberry Fields, take in a free concert or theater production, or enjoy a free guided tour before paying a visit to the Central Park Zoo. On the edges of the park, you will be delighted to find a variety of marvelous museums.
The Museum Mile
Your visit is simply not complete without taking a stroll down Museum Mile, featuring eight world-class museums. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, filled will a wide variety of art, photographs, exhibits, and even an Egyptian tomb, is one of the largest museums in the world and a must-see for NYC tourists. While you are walking the mile, be sure to check out the Guggenheim Museum, a cylindrical museum designed by Frank Lloyd Wright that features some of history's most famous contemporary and early modern art.
Broadway and Times Square
Experience some of the best theater performances in the world, gaze in awe at some of the largest digital billboards on earth, or simply snap a few photos and enjoy the unparalleled theater culture as you explore Times Square, located in the center of Manhattan. If you choose to watch a show, discount theater tickets can be found throughout the city, or you can download an app on your smartphone to see what's currently running.
Be sure to pamper yourself while you are here and experience a luxury day spa tourists and natives alike flock to. Enjoy a relaxing massage, or check out a complete spa package so you'll be refreshed for the rest of your trip!
Liberty Island
Step aboard the ferry and head to Liberty Island for an up-close view of the Statue of Liberty. Be sure to arrive at your departure point in Battery Park early or you could waste valuable time standing in line to board. Each ferry ticket includes a self-guided tour that offers fascinating information about this majestic national monument, but you can choose to enjoy a Ranger guided tour if you prefer, and learn about the history of the Statue of Liberty and the island itself. If you're running late and don't want to endure the long lines for the ferry from Battery Park, you can take the free Staten Island ferry that will enable you to take pictures of the Statue of Liberty and offers great views of the harbor.
Empire State Building
You'll feel like you are at the top of the world when you take in the breathtaking views from atop the magnificent Empire State Building. Explore this historic landmark from bottom to top as you take pleasure in the beautiful 1930's art deco interior, visit a variety of impressive exhibits, and rise to the observatories that provide you with a 360° view of NYC and beyond. Save valuable time and avoid long lines and tour groups by arriving early or around lunchtime.
Brooklyn
There is so much to see and do in Brooklyn that you could spend your entire week just taking in the magnificent views, enjoying the fabulous food and drink at some of the independent bars and restaurants, and experiencing history and culture at the Brooklyn Museum.
Since your time here in Brooklyn is short, however, be sure to take the 25-minute walk across the Brooklyn Bridge for a beautiful perspective of downtown, and check out the oldest running aquarium in the United States—the New York Aquarium.
