As more businesses operate internationally, traditional boundaries around where work is done and who performs it are dissolving. This shift is expanding beyond remote work to include smoother relocation options for skilled employees who need to perform work-related tasks abroad on behalf of their organisations.

For foreign businesses intending to set up operations or fulfill a contract in the United Kingdom, the Global Mobility Visa enables them to legally move key talents from their home countries to the UK, where their expertise is needed. This mobility is particularly critical for organisations operating in the technology, healthcare, and engineering industries, where local talent shortages in the UK are most pronounced.

What are Global Mobility Visas?

The Global Business Mobility visas are explicitly designed for foreign business owners and their employees who want to enter the UK to set up a branch of their business or provide a service to a British company.

There are five UK Global Business Mobility Visas, and they include:

  1. Senior or Specialist Worker Visa: This visa is designed for senior managers or employees with specialist knowledge who are transferred to work in a British business linked to their overseas company.
  2. Graduate Trainee Visa: This visa is for employees on a graduate training program that will lead to either a senior or specialist role.
  3. UK Expansion Worker Visa: This is for employees helping international organisations set up a branch in the UK.
  4. Service Supplier Visa: This visa is for individuals who intend to come to the UK to deliver specific services covered by a UK trade agreement.
  5. Secondment Worker Visa: For foreign workers sent by their foreign employers to undertake temporary assignments in a British business.

Conclusion

The nature of work is changing rapidly, driven largely by global mobility and new approaches to talent acquisition. Visa policies and international immigration agreements in many countries, including the UK, make it easier for foreign businesses to transfer workers abroad and address gaps in local talent.

Under the UK’s Global Business Mobility route, companies can leverage five visa categories for various purposes, including opening new branches, managing cross-border projects, and developing international expertise within their teams. This flexibility in visa options is a valuable asset for multinational businesses aiming to enter or strengthen their presence in the UK market.
