If you are planning to go to your favourite place, car rental is also an important part. In this regards, you should be concern about some points. Let's learn some tips for renting a car during vacation:

1)  Make several reservations at the same time

Always try to book everything in advance, but what if you are not sure how or where your trip will be?

Suppose, you are thinking about the beaches of Gran Canaria, but your partner wants to feel the magic of the Alhambra in Granada. What to do then book a car in both! Most operators allow you to make a reservation by advancing only a small part of the rental amount, and cancellations are free if you cancel within 48 hours.

The same happens when you are clear about the destination, but not the dates on which you are going to travel. Make several reservations on different dates. By general rule, in addition, you will get better prices if you book well in advance. If in the end, you decide not to travel on those dates, it will be enough to notify you within the cancellation period.

Tips: if you don't know exactly the exact dates, the model, or the destination, make several reservations at the same time, and cancel the ones you don't need.

2)  Change the date of your reservation if you are not traveling

Change the date of your reservation, instead of canceling, if at the last moment you have decided not to rent the car. Why? Because changing the dates of the reservation is free. However, for canceling a prepaid reservation at short notice they can charge you up to 100% of the rental price. To get it right you have to read how far in advance your rental company allows you to cancel a reservation for free and the minimum hours in advance with which you have to notify to make changes to the reservation.

Tips: if you are going to cancel with less than 48 hours, modify the reservation at a later date, and then cancel the reservation.

3)  Choose a full fuel policy

Each company has a different fuel policy. Put gasoline on your own at the station next to any airport where you have to return the car, it will always be cheaper than paying the operator for the fuel, since it uses a scale calculation that always throws a price per liter higher. If you want to know more about fuel policies see our article “The fuel policy of rentals ".

Tips: choose fuel policy. You will not have to pay the fuel tank or refueling fee in advance, and you can choose the cheapest gas station to refuel the car.

4)  Rent for several days

Renting a car for several days can save you money. In most operators, renting three days costs the same as two. The basis of your rental rate is based on the costs of preparing the car, insurance, etc., and not on the rental itself. It is more problematic for the company to organize its fleet and have the car documentation ready for you than to extend the rental time. In addition, returning the car after the stipulated time may result in major penalties.

Tips: if you want to save money, it is cheaper to book in advance, rather than reduce the number of days in the reservation. In some cases, you may expect that you could be late at the time of return. So, at the time of car rental deals, book the car for an extra day for just a little more.

5)  Take pictures of the car when you pick it up and return it

Having a problem with an unknown car is much easier than you think, no matter how good a driver you are. And we are not talking only about accidents: friction on the sheet, a pebble on the moon, a blow in the rearview mirror or a slight cut in the tires ... All these small damages will be charged to your account. And if they were already in the car, but the operator has no record, he will claim them from you.

Tips: check the car and take pictures both at the time of collection and when returning it, especially if you have left the keys in a mailbox and no worker from the rental company has checked the car with you.
