What the Health? 5 Key Aspects to Create Whole Health

When one talks about health a lot of the conversation revolves around how we’re feeling physically. But health is so much more than that. True health is a combination of 5 specific areas of our lives and to fully encompass health, one must feel as though they are fulfilling every aspect as much as they think is necessary. So what are these different aspects?

Whole health includes the following categories: financial, spiritual, physical, emotional, and mental.

When one talks about financial health, it does not mean that they are the richest person in the room in regards to physical money, but rather they are the richest person in the room because they are happy and excited about what they do for a living. Having a purpose in what we do day in and day out is so vital in how we perceive the world and ourselves. If Monday mornings are dreaded every single week (let’s be honest, sometimes they are a drag) then our outlook on life is always “living for the weekend”. Why not live to your highest potential every single day?

Spiritual health can absolutely be religious-based, but it can also be the philosophy by which we live our lives. By knowing your “why” and what drives you to be the person you are, this will help you truly love who you are and your life will have meaning. By being spiritually healthy, this can not only help you personally, but the vibrations you emanate will attract like personalities and you will find yourself surrounded by amazing people.

Physical health is the most obvious of all of these due to how loud our bodies communicate with us. It is, however, the foundation for all of the other aspects of health. Since the nervous system communicates with every single cell in our body, it is vital to keep your nervous system functioning at it’s highest capabilities. How do you assess the health of your nervous system? Seek out a NeuroStructural Chiropractor who can analyze how well your body is adapting and coordinating so that you can feel great and have more energy and ambition to dive into the other aspects that make up your health.

Emotional and mental health can be grouped together but are also quite separate. Emotional health is more of our reactions to daily interactions. We can choose to either blow up in certain situations or take a step back, breathe, and respond with a more relaxed demeanor. Many times our reactions to situations are so, well reactive, that it isn’t until we look back on it that we wish we would have responded in a different way. The unneeded stress that results from these reactions can create a negative emotional response causing our health to diminish. Mental health is similar but it is more of the long-term effects of everyday life. By meditating for 2-5 minutes a day, one can become connected to the universe and themselves and clear all the clutter that gathers in our thoughts. There are many apps available to assist in meditating, allowing one to clear the clutter and obtain some much-needed headspace. I have found, personally, that meditating not only relaxes my thoughts, it also rejuvenates my energy. It’s almost as good as a 20-minute nap!

So seeing as there are many aspects that are involved when it comes to our overall health, it is important to spend some quality time assessing where we fall in every category. Self-reflection is one of the greatest tools and I encourage everyone to tap into their inner “why” to live out a truly happy and healthy life. Where do you grade yourself in each of the 5 categories of health?
