Interesting Facts about Electrical Power Projects
From power plant to your home; the journey of energy
It was Thomas Alva Edison who completely revolutionized the way people perceive and use energy. But it was quite long ago; that was a time when energy was produced where and when it was required. But with a power station, one has the freedom to choose the place of production and place of consumption. However, the connecting link or go-between has to be electricity. Thus, one can generate electricity in Rajasthan and that electricity can be used in places like Bihar. A power station, also commonly known as powerhouse, power plant, or an industrial facility for generating electric power is known to contain generators or rotating machines which can easily and effortlessly convert mechanical power to electrical power.
Important facts about power stations
Before one delve into the various types of power stations, or know about different electrical power projects, you must known that at the centre of a power station is the AC generator or the alternator which is nothing but a rotating machine. This rotating machine creates relative motion between the magnetic field and the conductors. The source of energy is harnessed to turn the generator shafts can vary and is mainly dependent on the kind of fuel that is used.
Different kinds of power stations
In all the electrical power projects, when there is a question of bulk power generation, only hydro, nuclear and thermal power is used. A thermal power station or a coal-fired thermal power plant is probably one of the most convenient methods of generating electric power with much greater efficiency. Coal is used as the primary fuel to boil the water to create superheated steam to run the turbine. The main functionality of nuclear power plants is almost similar to thermal power stations. However, in case of a nuclear plant, radioactive elements such as thorium and uranium are used as the primary fuel. For nuclear power generation, the radioactive fuels go through a process known as fission reaction within the reactors. In case of a hydro-electric plant, it is the energy of the falling water which is harnessed to run the turbine, which in turn helps to run the generator to produce electricity.
Developers who are involved in electric power projects
Apart from the public sector companies, there are quite a few private sector companies which are involved in electrical power projects. Their main aim is to provide sufficient, budget-friendly and superior-quality power to the masses. The techniques are extremely cutting-edge and the technology boasts of innovation. But at the same time, they are searching for sustainable solutions, which mean that they do not mean any harm to the environment because of their projects.
In most cases, leading developers have high voltage transmission lines and various substations which increase the transformation capacities; the transformation from mechanical to electrical energy is now a matter of few hours. There are taking help of foreign technologies and the most advanced science to create a sustainable situation, where transformation and transmission of energy will no longer be a hard task.
Companies, for instance understands that a country like India has an extremely patchy distribution of natural resources; hence the need of transmission corridors is on the rise. The transmission corridors developed by many power companies connect the major regions of power generation with load centres. And then the power is taken to utilities which will transmit the energy to factories, schools and other places.
The future of power generation
Apart from advanced technology, one can find the latest innovations like the use of heavy lift helicopter and aircranes to set up power transmission lines in remote areas. The use of LIDAR or Light Detection and Ranging technique is being used to measure the laser distances as well. It is not just the land that is being used for the transmission of energy; the lines are also being run through rivers and streams. The future of power knows no limitations at all!
