A Quick Look at Brief History and Types of Denim Jeans

Denim has been our favorites since ages and continues to do so. And why won’t they be? They are supremely comfortable, durable, affordable and stylish all at the same time. The history of denim goes back to 1873 when they were invented by Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis.
The name 'Denim' is derived from that of a thick fabric referred as the “Serge de Nimes” which was initially made in France. The manner in which it is weaved distinguishes it from the other fabrics i.e., in this case, the weft passes under two or more warp threads which produce a diagonal ribbing. This technique eventually produced a durable fabric which first began to gain popularity among the Western laborers who were mainly teamsters, surveyors, and miners, etc. Due to its high demand, Jacob Davis then collaborated with Levi Strauss & Co. Over time, Denim has seen a great evolution and is now used to manufacture products which range from boots, hats, bags, shirts, to bean bags and lampshades.
Denim and Its Different Types
Denim is particularly classified as Cotton Serge Denim, Raw Denim, Selvage Denim, Stretch Denim, Poly Denim, Organic Denim, and Ramic Denim. Here is a brief description of each of these in detail:

It is the most commonly found denim among the people and is manufactured with cent percent cotton serge which is known for its diagonal pattern. Being sturdy and resilient it is generally blended with other fabrics.

This type of denim emerged as the need to produce an environment-friendly cloth and therefore it is made purely out of cotton. Use of natural materials such as potato starch is preferable during the manufacturing of organic denim and use of chemicals is strictly excluded from the process.
World War II had a major role in making Denim a major hit among the working class and hence it eventually spread its likeability from the Americas and started gaining popularity in the Europe over time. Denim has survived all the time since its discovery due to the fact that it is affordable and at the same time does not compromise on the quality of the fabric which is durable.
Decades after the war ended, Denim were seen to be the favorites among the youth especially the hipsters and people who preferred an unconventional way of dressing. Moreover, after some time they began to be regarded as the symbol of relaxation and comfort dressing. An amazing fact related to Denim is that it is bacteria resistant and can be worn without been washed for weeks.
Along the time there has been an evolution in the way jeans is cut as well such as skinny jeans, straight jeans, tapered jeans, slim fit jeans, low rise and a plethora of others. With this, you have plenty of options to pair your favorite cut with your complete outlook. It largely depends on your body type as to what suits your aesthetics the best, so always make a wise choice while selecting a particular pair of jeans.
The straight legs and skinny denim are most preferred ones among a large population of people and suit almost all body types. Also, you need to take care of the kind of footwear that you are wearing with your denim jeans. For example, a straight legs jean goes well with the sneakers and boots with the slim fitted jeans. If you have a short height, then you can choose the slim bootcut style which gives the illusion of lengthened legs. For every day dressing the best suitable option is to use the slim fit denim which gives a relaxed appeal to the body.
All in all, Denim have become such a significant part of our lives that they represent our individuality.
