Connecting Reiki and Chakras

Connecting Reiki and Chakras

Reiki came from Japan while Chakras came from Sanskrit, the liturgical language of the Hindus. They are somehow different, but they work together seamlessly when combined. The Chakra system is so deeply rooted in Reiki that students are taught about it early on. By the time they become a Reiki master, they are experts in both Reiki and Chakras.

The 7 Main Chakras

The term, chakra simply means "wheel". It refers to a center that sees all directions. It represents power, to put it differently. Think of chakra as an energy HQ in the body. It's where you go if you have something important to process.

Hindus and Buddhists believe that there are seven of these HQ's and several satellite offices. They are also color-coded so that they can be easily located. The 7 major Chakras are:

Crown Chakra

Crown Chakra

This chakra is located on top of the head. It is commonly assigned the color purple or white. In it's balanced state, the Crown Chakra provides knowledge and wisdom. It also represents spirituality. An amethyst crystal can be used to invoke the Crown Chakra. There is also a Reiki crystal for other chakras.

Third Eye Chakra

Third Eye Chakra

This chakra is located in the forehead and in between the eyebrows. It is assigned the color indigo (blue). It represents the senses and the ability to perceive events. In its balanced state, the Third Eye Chakra provides sharper memory and perception.

Throat Chakra

Heart Chakra

Solar Plexus Chakra

Sacral Chakra

Sacral Chakra

This chakra is located below the navel. It is represented by the orange color. It is associated with sexuality, relationships and conditions related to the reproductive system. In its balanced state, one is said to be sexually active and has high self-esteem.

Root Chakra

Root Chakra

This chakra is located between the genitals and the anus. It is assigned the color red and represents passion and strength. It also deals with conditions related to the endocrine system, such as our hormones. Additionally, it is associated with survival and security, such as food, shelter and money. In its balanced state, the Root Chakra enables us to feel secure and enthusiastic.

The Balancing Act

Balancing your chakras is a continuing endeavor, especially in a time where multitasking is on high demand.

As the adage goes, nobody's perfect. We are constantly in a state where we have to unblock a certain chakra that can affect our overall well being. For instance, having diarrhea prevents us from going to work, thus impacting our self-confidence and our ability to earn. Each chakra affects us in one way or another - be it physically, emotionally or spiritually. They are all part of a whole.

The Reiki and Chakra Connection

Reiki plays a big role in balancing our chakras. It channels a practitioner's energy into the client through the laying on of hands. Reiki practitioners invoke a particular chakra by meditating. The chakra can then be harnessed to heal or unblock the client's chakra.

An imbalanced chakra leads to a variety of conditions, ranging from mood swings, headaches, fatigue, stress to more serious ailments like insomnia, migraine and arthritis.
