What Are the Car Problems That Are Too Expensive to Repair?

When buying a new car all of us are very excited about the fact of getting a set of wheels that is free from any issues. But as the vehicle gets older and travels more miles many problems can arise because of several different factors like lack of maintenance, manufacturing shortcomings, etc. Some of the repairs are certainly worth doing, but when the cost of repairs gets too close to the vehicle’s actual value, it should be avoided.
But whatever is the reason for a car problem, it is always a good idea to know what auto problems are very expensive to fix. Here we have given a list of car problems that may be too expensive to repair and it may be even smarter to just give on your automobile.
Replacing a damaged engine
There are many engine problems that are fairly common. Some of them even damage the engine so much that it needs replacement. Sometimes the repairs are likely too expensive to go after. You may have a blown engine that may be due to rod problems or broken valves. Some of the most common problems that lead to engine failure are overheating of the vehicle for an extended period or having very little oil available for efficient lubrication. When an engine gets damaged, the cost of replacement may range between $1k to $4k. However, in some cases, it can go all the way up to $7k depending on the extent of the damage.
Additionally, if you already have a vehicle that is a bit older and has covered large miles, then its engine replacement
may cost you more than the actual value of the automobile. A high odometer reading decreases the overall resale value of a vehicle.
Failing transmission
When your vehicle refuses to go into gear, fails to move in a reverse or forward direction, slipping out of gear and delaying in acceleration. All these problems can result to a failing transmission. Sometimes transmission failure can be also caused due to problems with incorrect levels of transmission fluid. When a transmission failure occurs, it would cost you around $3500 for its replacement.
On the other hand, if you have the option of repairing your auto transmission, you can still expect to pay around $2,000. Although you should change your transmission fluids after every few years, it should still be examined on a daily basis.
Blown or leaking cylinder head gasket
When it comes to repairing a blown cylinder head gasket it requires a lot of effort and labour and so it is very expensive to repair. A leaking or blown head gasket problem is usually caused by engine overheating, manufacturer or timing issues. If only your head gasket has been damaged, you can expect to pay up to $1,200 to $1,600 for its repairs.
AC Compressor
Because the compressor is the heart of the Air conditioning system, it can be very expensive to fix it when it starts to break down or stop functioning properly. Generally, it can cost you around $600 to repair a damaged AC Compressor. However, the compressor replacement may be accompanied by extra repair work like the addition of a new refrigerant, which can increase the overall repair costs.
Bad or damaged Timing Belt
When a timing belt breaks down while you are driving your vehicle, it can damage the pistons, rods, and valves in your vehicle’s engine. Most of the time it can even affect the crankshaft of the automobile. It needs extensive efforts to replace a broken timing belt and it can generally cost up to $3,000.
Whenever you have any car problems, make sure to know the cost of repairs before deciding whether to fix the vehicle or not. However, in some cases, it may be a good idea to simply upgrade your vehicle to a newer one. Calling your local car removal company is a great idea to do, in case of your vehicle cannot be driven.
