    In Eastern Orthodoxy the traditional number of beads in Chotki is 100 pieces in a round plus 3 additional beads that run down from a tying knot, crowned with a tassel. 100 beads are considered the most comfortable amount of beads that provide for a prayer with full concentration.

    The Orthodox Christians usually use two kinds of prayer rope: those made of pleated wool or its substitutes or those made of leather with wooden elements. The latter are often called “lestvitsa” or “lestovka” from the Russian “lestnitsa” - “ladder” because the shape of this kind of prayer rope reminds of a small ladder.
