  • Vertical Jump Testing Extract From Supertraining
This well-known test may be applied in several different ways. Invariably it requires the subject to leap from a standing position with a preliminary dip and touch a measuring device sideways with one's dominant hand. Recalling the specificity of training, it is important to note that the results of this test correlate best with conditions which are most similar to that of the test. Therefore, it is useful to repeat the test with the non-dominant hand or in the frontal plane with the athlete using both hands to reach for the target. Moreover, there are several different initial conditions for executing this test:

  • HIT and High Volume Training Supertraining Extract
Sometimes the impression is created that there is only one model of periodisation which employs a linearly increasing or undulating increase of intensity accompanied by concurrent decreases in training volume. However, Verkhoshansky, for one, sometimes utilised concentrated blocks of higher volume training for a specific purpose, as discussed in my textbook, "Supertraining" (Siff, 2000). Here are some extracts to explain his method:

  • Optimal Hypertrophy for Sports Supertraining Extract
In both Olympic lifting and powerlifting, optimal and not maximal hypertrophy is a central feature of the game, unlike bodybuilding where it does not matter whether one is relatively weak or strong with reference to one's bodymass. All that matters is well-defined, symmetrical muscle bulk in bodybuilding, but in the lifting sports, your size and impressiveness of appearance earn you scant respect - all that counts is what you lift. Optimal hypertrophy means continuing to develop building muscle only as long as that extra bulk continues to provide you with significant increases in strength and power.

  • Complex and Functional Training Extract from Supertraining
Here is an extract from my book which defines "complex training" as it was formally conceived as a training approach in Russia. If one analyses this information in some depth, it will be seen how it also applies to what constitutes 'functional training' and how 'functional training' may be integrated into an overall complex or concentrated loading scheme of physical preparation. Well-meaning attempts to separate all training into "functional" and "non-functional" training thus may be seen to be often misleading and inaccurate, because a complex (at the level of the single session or microcycle) comprising "functional" and "non-functional", machine and free weight, two dimensional and three-dimensional, training can still produce a perfectly acceptable scheme to achieve "functional training". One cannot categorically label a given exercise or form of training as "functional" or "non-functional" without considering the context of the specific training stage and individual involved.

  • Reviews of Gordon Ramsays Great British Pub Food
“After all the hype, controversy and media frenzy that has surrounded the release of this, Ramsay’s seventeenth thriller, I was eager to get my hands on a copy. I had no intention of reading it, but as soon I opened the book I was hooked. The story focuses on the main character, 6oz Butter, and throughout the book we see him land himself in a variety of scrapes and predicaments often with hilarious results. 6oz Butter is not alone in this strange world which Ramsay creates, and is joined by some of his friends: A pinch O Salt features heavily, as do the lovable duo Bangers and Mash and the evil Garlic Cloves.

  • Summary of Gordon Ramsays Great British Pub Food Cookbook
While in Australia, this book received a lot less press to launch than his last cookbook, Gordon Ramsay Makes it Easy (maybe because it wasn’t Xmas?), it certainly should have. Anyone who is partial to some of the food cooked on the UK incarnation of Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares will be familiar with some of these dishes, with things as simple as Yorkshire Pudding right through to complex dishes involving very exotic agreement.

  • Gordon Ramsay Cooking for Friends Editorial Review
Gordon Ramsay Makes it Easy is the title of the great chef's latest cookbook and a great description of the 269 page masterpiece! TV's most popular chef, Gordon Ramsay, bridges the gap between his famous chef's table (situated in the white heat of his restaurant kitchen) and his table at home with Tana and their young family. His latest cookbook is packed with simple, seasonal, modern British recipes. Gordon lives life in the fast lane, travelling the world to foster his many hugely successful business enterprises and to film his highly acclaimed TV series. But, despite the commitments of a busy work life, he has always believed that families should sit around their tables to eat together as much as possible.

  • Reviews of Gordon Ramsays Cooking For Friends
Here is a summary of reviews for Gordon Ramsay's Cooking for Friends. On average the book scored very highly with fourteen of eighteen reviews on Amazon in the UK scoring it 4 or five stars. "Gordon Ramsay is a GREAT chef - but sometimes his recipes can be too complex for the enthusiastic amateur like myself. However, this book is just right - in that the recipes are excellent and there is some great stuff in here but, most importantly, the recipes are well written and easy to follow. I think this is perfect for those who want to cook quality dishes for dinner parties but not spend several days in the kitchen preparing for it!!
