Piles otherwise known as hemorrhoids are enlarged, painful veins in your rectum. It refers to a condition in which the veins around the anus or lower rectum are swollen and inflamed. It can be internal or external. Internal piles refer to the state of that occurring inside the anus. External piles, it can be seen and felt on the outside of the anus. External hemorrhoids look like round pink swellings, the size of a pea or a grape. Piles are common in pregnant women.
