When many people think of a destination for their ultimate escape, they plump for the Australian Outback. When getting to a country takes so long, it’s a good idea to set aside some time while there for some serious exploring. While it might take a while to recover from the journey of 13,000 miles or so after heading ‘down under’ to Australia, there is so much to see that it pays to get started as soon as possible.

In the UK we’re not used to the sweltering heat experienced by those living in hotter climates so being too hot while we sleep is not usually a problem but with some spates of hot weather over the last few weeks and more set for the summer months, it’s worth keeping a few tips for a cool night’s sleep under your night cap. Common sense tells us that an overtired brain will not function to the same capacity as one that is rested and refreshed but a new study has proven this fact and those studied who took a nap were able to link random facts and solve puzzles much more effectively than those who hadn’t. This study actually showed something completely new which was that prospective memory, in other words remembering to do something in the future, improved dramatically after a full night of good sleep.

Some sleep-related disorders are hereditary but many have unknown causes and a few have no cure, here are four of some of the most common but also strangest sleep-related disorders. A recent study from the Hasbro’s Children’s Hospital in America has shown that an extra thirty minutes in bed could help to improve children’s concentration and therefore their ability to absorb information. A sample of 200 teenagers was asked a series of questions on sleeping habits and the teenagers’ motivation and quality of sleep were assessed after a delayed start time to the day of half an hour and the results showed that this short time made a big difference.
