How many times has the person next to you been snoring and you tapped them and said, “Hey wake up and go to sleep”? They would grunt and maybe roll over only to stop snoring for a few minutes, then that noise is back and you are at a loss for what to do next. You loose your sleep then get up for work when your alarm goes off. You are groggy and feel terrible. You care for the person who snores but you are starting to feel angry and don’t know what to do to make the person quit snoring.

More and more patients are considering laser surgery for snoring. Laser-assisted uvulopalatoplasty (LAUP), a relatively new safe and effective surgical procedure for alleviating snoring in the healthy adult, is highlighted. LAUP techniques may be performed in the office setting using a local anesthetic or in theatre under general anesthesia. It is continuing to receive wider recognition and application by the otolaryngology community as the surgical method of choice for alleviating snoring.
