Buying a plane for corporate travel may not be an option for everybody. Not everybody is a pro golfer or an executive for General Motors, but traveling by private jet offers many opportunities for the rest of us. Not only does it offer convenience and privacy that cannot be matched by commercial airlines, it almost eliminates every hassle and pain that flying brings to mind.

But there are different ways to fly. That is to say that there are different methods in how you pay to fly, through ownership or chartering or even through leasing. The amount of ownership that a client needs really depends on the amount of flying that they will be doing. Keep in mind that plane ownership is not like owning a car. There is maintenance and upkeep as well as housing the plane. And for most people, flying the plane is not an option.

One of the biggest reasons for owning the plane is to not have to worry about how you are getting to your destination as well as having that time to prepare and work or maybe even relax. Flying the plane yourself takes away some of the best benefits that owning the plane offers. For fun and relaxation, it may be different, but taking clients to an important meeting with executives is a different story. So a crew is a high priority when it comes to owning a plane.

You need a properly trained crew, but more importantly, you need a crew that is available when you need them. Keeping this crew on call is expensive and if you own your own plane, more than likely you would work through an agency that would provide a crew to you. But with other methods of ownership or leasing or chartering, this obligation is not left up to you. It is part of the service provided by the company that you choose.

For example, if you are involved in a fractional ownership program, you may never fly in the plane that you own, but you will fly in something comparable and the crew will always be included just as if you were just chartering the plane for a single flight. This is one of the benefits to not actually owning the plane because of details such as this. The less you have to worry about is almost always better than having to contend with all of the tiny details.
