As a novice candle maker you don't want to be spending a lot of money on purchasing molds so there are lots of ways you can get around this expense. When you first start out with candle making it is so easy to get excited, spend money and try lots of different ideas.
If you want to keep making candles I am sure you will discover what really takes your fancy as in the type of candles you want to make, then you can spend your money at that time.
You will find that you may have lots of things around the house that you can use. If you don't, take a trip to the local second hand store and you may find ideal glass containers there for next to nothing.
Glass containers
Glass containers are really popular for candle making. They can be used to sit a candle in or to pour wax into. They really look so romantic on a dinner table or in the bedroom. They really are stunning and what I like is that you can tie things like raffia or ribbon around the glass, well out of the way of the flame and you have a really attractive display even for a plain candle.
Another excellent of using a glass container is that by keeping the wax level well down the glass, you have a relatively safe candle. I think this is excellent where there are children or animals. The safety factor is also great for the dining area especially where there is going to be a lot of wine served.
Caution: If you are going to be using glass as the container to pour wax into you must heat the glass in the oven first.
Molds for pillar candles
Metal cylinders are best for making pillar candles. They make good shapes, but keep in mind that you will have to use a releasing agent so that the candle slips out once it is set.
Votive candles
These might be a candle mould that you would like to buy because they are a popular candle for your own personal use and they are great to give as presents. They display nicely in a box and are really inexpensive as a gift, but Oh, so lovely. For gifts you have the choice of using just the one fragrance or a variety of fragrances and I am sure they would be enjoyed regardless.
Cardboard cartons
A really popular carton that is used is the milk carton because we have so many of them available so you can just pour away to your hearts content then tear off the carton to free the candle. So easy! And So Cheap!
