How do you select your dog food? When reading the labels do you know what the ingredients listed really are?

While doing research on possible cause for dog seizures I started to investigate dog food ingredients.. I found out the dog food industry has some scary secrets that they wish would remain unknown to the general public. The problem is that now that I know I have decided I must tell the world.

You can relax I will not try and sell you some high priced dog food. I do want to show you how important it is for you to learn how to read and understand the labels on whatever dog food you choose.

What would you say if I told you that just by feeding your dog correctly you could add over eight years to its life? How great would it be to have eight more years of tail wagging unconditional love from your loved one?

I searched for a long time before I found reliable non bias information on how to read labels found on dog food. Even though the FDA regulates dog food labeling, the regulations are not even close to what they use for people food..

Because the FDA has written such weak labeling regulations the industry is able to add ingredients that are harmful to your dog and are added because the make the food taste better so that they’ll eat it.. Not to mention just plain deceive the pet owner by allowing the commercial pet food industry to play with words in their labeling.

If a dog food is named Turkey dog food it would have 70% turkey 9of some sort) compared to a food named Turkey flavored that would have 0% turkey in it..

If the name of the food contains the word “with” then by law that food only needs to contain around 3% of that ingredient. The words “Dinner” or “Nuggets” along with many more words all change the quality of the dog food.

The truth is the dog food industry has been allowed to deceive the pet owner into thinking they are purchasing quality ingredients, when the truth is we are purchasing ingredients not fit for human consumption.

The animal food industry is using the waste leftovers from human food production processing plants. This slop is deemed unfit for human consumption, but is sold as ingredients for pet foods.

Sometimes it seems like the FDA is in bed with the dog food industry with these weak regulations that allow the industry to list toxic ingredients using words that sound healthy. One would think that when they read Dried Egg Products as an ingredient in their dog food, that that would be a good thing. In reality this ingredient is a waste by-product of the egg industry first marked unfit for human consumption before it is sold to the dog food companies.

The problem is there are hundreds of ingredients listed on dog food labels that seem to mean one thing when in reality they mean something completely different.

The deception of the dog food labeling laws has forced me into transitioning my dogs to a homemade dog food. I do understand that this is not feasible for all pet owners, but it does underscore the need for them to alt least learn how to properly interpret a dog food label.
