Do dreams have meaning? How do they really interpret what you are dreaming about? And really does it matter at all?
It's hard to imagine that the ways of interpreting dreams will work for all the dreams of all people out there. After all, some of the meanings that you read in the newer dream dictionaries seem vague in some cases. Or too plain and too designed.
Not to make light of interpreting dreams, because that's not what is trying to be said. In fact what dreams mean is really an interesting thing. Most people love to read what others say about a subject they may have dreamt about. On the other hand some people place way too much emphasis on it.
Just because you dream of something bad one night, maybe you've beaten up a person who was nice. Or worse yet maybe in a dream you've killed a person who you shouldn't have. It doesn't mean you are a mass murderer waiting to break free. And it may not even mean that you have stress in your life that is unresolved. It could simply be what you last saw on TV, or read in a paper.
Look at Sigmund Freud, the "father of modern psychology", he felt all dreams were about sex. Yes he felt that every single dream could be figured out by some sort of repressed sexual feeling you were experiencing. One that you may not have even been aware off.
Plus how can all people have the same meaning for a dream, even though they may have grown up in different parts of the world. But if you look at dream dictionaries there are no consideration put into the thought of people having different upbringings and desires.
Getting past that thought though, it really matters what school of thought you believe the most when it comes to meaning of a dream. It use to be that a person who would dream of death was actually dreaming of life. But now it's all about fears of succeeding or changing to the kind of person you should be.
In closing, dreams are great to have, and can be used for stories and paintings if you are creative enough to do so. But as far as Freud or someone else being right as far as the meanings of what you have dreamt. Well shouldn't it be more up to the person who dreams to decide what it may actually mean? May you have many dreams that will keep you entertained for several years to come!
