In today’s society, we find ourselves cutting corners to do things that make life so called “easier” for us. But what may be constituted as easier for us does not necessarily mean better for our world as a whole.
For example, I recently stayed in a small quant hotel. It was there that I noticed a thought out method of disposing your trash. Not only did they have one wastebasket for trash, but they had another specifically for recycling. Simple, yes I know, but this is great I thought; one more person that cares about our planet. The owner’s of this hotel are actually taking the extra step in contributing to a healthier world. Now why aren’t more people following this model?
I then went on a couple weeks later to stay at a fancy well known hotel and noticed that all they had was a trash can. There was no recycling bin to dispose of my water bottles, soda cans, HCG diet container, and so on. I was astounded by this. How is it that a smaller place is using recycling methods but a huge hotel chain does not?
I have noticed this time and time again with apartment complexes, shopping centers, and corporate business parks around my office space in Tucson. They don’t have recycling bins; all they have are trash bins. And as you can imagine, several people are at all these locations on a daily basis, so there is a lot of recycling that could be done.
I feel the smaller businesses are putting in more efforts, which is great, but shouldn’t these larger corporations do so as well? Maybe these corporations just flat out do not care, or they think it’s too much money, when in the long run it will actually be saving them money, or they just see it as in inconvenience to their business.
I’m not them, so I can not speak for them, but I can speak for myself. I think it’s sad that we don’t take more caution into what is being done about this issue. I mean really, if we all put a little more effort into this matter, it would make an immense difference in our society.
