To begin with, why do people think it is ok to ask this question in the Network Marketing industry but not in any other profession?
Some marketers think it’s rude. The rest, like myself, that when we hear "How much money do you make in Network Marketing?" we’re really hearing an underlying issue.
If you are in Network Marketing here’s how to answer that question, and what not to say. If you are someone that is looking to get into Network Marketing and you’re the one asking that question I have the answer for that too.
Doesn't matter what amount of money you are making in Network Marketing, if you tell anyone that asks this question, it will be the wrong answer.
Your income in Network Marketing falls into 3 categories:
1. Beginner – You don't make anything yet, or are just breaking even, but you haven’t made anything sizeable yet. If you give this as an answer you lose credibility. People want to join a leader that has produced results.
2. Intermediate – You've started to have some results, you’ve been able to replace your main source of income and possibly even more. Tell them this and you’re still not really impressing anyone. Because the prospect asking you how much you make has a mental picture of what they want to make, and quite likely it’s more than what you are at right now. Again, they want to join someone that has created the outcome that they want.
3. Advanced Guru – You make $60K/month and are living the Network Marketers dream. But don't tell people what you make because you will scare them away and draw out their underlying insecurity and self-doubt that they can reach that level.
Sorry, no matter what you make it’s the wrong answer!
What is the right answer?
Let's look at what is really being asked.
The secret question here isn’t about how much the person being asked makes. The real question that is being asked is how much can they make.
So, when you hear the question: “How much do you make in Network Marketing?” what they really want to know is: “How much am I going to make in Network Marketing?”
Now, to address those of you who have asked this question, or want to ask it. Here is the underlying issue that someone like me, and other marketers that have been in the game for awhile are going to pick up on. Your lack of confidence in your power to make the income you want in Network Marketing.
Because you know that you don’t really care about what I make. You want to know what you’re going to make. You want reassurance and a guarantee.
You are the only one that can put a guarantee on what you will make as a Network Marketer because your results are directly linked to the effort you put into it.
The reassurance I give is in the training, information, education, resources and tools that I offer to those starting out in Network Marketing.
