It is interesting to listen to people of various ages speaking about their “generation”. Usually they are referring to their own age group as a means of comparing or contrasting it to another. Often people from one generation will be unable to understand the appeal of something that seems to have captivated a succeeding generation, such as the fuss over the advent of rock and roll. Today, however, there are few people of the most modern generations who don’t understand the appeal of the 4G wireless technologies.

It is amazing to look at the rapid-fire expansion and evolution of the Internet. Only twenty years ago there were not many people with complex home computers let alone the billions of people “surfing the web”. Today that has all changed and people think nothing of using a mobile device to access the Internet. This means that high-speed Internet services are in great demand, and are even expected. This is the underlying reasoning behind the numerous generations of mobile networks that have already occurred. Currently, most consumers are well aware of the third generation, or 3G networks which allow complex activities to be possible through a suitable device. There are, however, much faster and functional opportunities to be found in the fourth generation, or 4G wireless Internet options.

Not only can a home or business owner take advantage of Broadband-like speed and reliability through such services, but they will also be able to do so without a single wire or cord. The technologies use a twofold system that relies on a tiny modem that plugs into a USB port on a computer or router, and a specialized network design known as WiMAX.

The expansion and development of the preceding generations has created an enormous network of towers and routing devices intended to send signals to anyone logged into a network. The WiMAX system identifies and organizes all of these signals into a usable feed that is shunted through the portable or mobile modem and into the computer. This provides the individual or the household with a high-speed Internet connection that works at four times the speed of any 3G network.

Not only will someone with a 4G Internet connection be able to take their service into the backyard, the nearby park, or even out on the road, but they will also usually have the option of running their telephone service through this connection too.

The evolution of VoIP services has made it possible for a fourth generation network user to also make and receive their telephone calls through such a connection as well. This means that a modern business professional could literally take their entire office with them if they operated in an area of 4G coverage.

This is the last point of significance about all fourth generation networks; they are not yet available outside of major metropolitan areas. This has to do strictly with the availability of the towers and adequate signals to create the powerful signals that WiMAX makes possible. This is something that is also rapidly changing as more and more people become aware of the fourth generation capabilities and value.
