The World Wide Web can be overwhelming and you may not even know what type of people would be interested in your product or service.  By understanding the type of target market that is best for your opportunity, you can pinpoint your efforts to obtain the desired results.

Determining your type of target market is not difficult; just need to know where to look. There are at least 7 different types or classifications that your prospects might fall into. To make this process a little easier to understand, I have chosen to promote network marketing. This principle would apply to any product or service you chose to promote from health care products to credit repair services.

#1. Total strangers. These are people you pass on the street or end up talking to at the check out counter, etc. No need to discuss this group, they are the worst group of "prospects."

#2. Friends and family. Because Friends and families usually wants to support a loved-one's business opportunity, this group is just slightly a little bit better.

#3. People who are already involved in a sales profession or people who have great communication skills. This group of people has not determined to you that they are interested in your product or service. So we are back to looking at this group as total strangers.

#4. People who are looking to run a home based business (aka - opportunity seekers). Now you are thinking outside the box. This group has shown some type of interest by possibly filling out a form or opted into a mailing. These people are searching for information and looking to find someone who can help point them in the right direction in network marketing.

#5. People who want to own a home based business and who buy information about how to do it. Now we're talking. This group not only filled out a form, but they have already purchased something relating to your mlm business.

#6. People who are in mlm. Ding Ding Ding, we have a winner! One of the secrets your upline may be keeping from you is that the heavy hitters do not target seeker's, they target other networkers. Because this group already understand the concepts to network marketing.

Why couldn't they share this secret with us sooner? Because if they did, they would have to share their fishing hole with us as well.

The reason this group is ideal is because they are already sold on the new business model of network marketing! You don't have to convince them of that.

But more importantly, someone in network marketing has PROVEN that they're interested in the same kind of solution you offer because they've taken action.

But, I think we can do a little better.

#7. Frustrated network marketers (people who are in between companies, people who have been through multiple companies, people who have quit, people who are actively looking for ways to improve their business, etc.). Believe it or not, the vast majority of mlmers fall into this category. Even if they do not realize it yet, they are looking for someone to help them get valued information and point them into the right direction, which is what network marketing is all about.

Now that you have an idea of the types of target market, try and apply this principle to your own product and/or service. By targeting the right prospects, you will see more people signing up in your business.
