A new incentive scheme to scrap old G-rated Boilers, cut carbon emissions will and safeguard the future of the energy firms and their employees involved in the manufacture, sales and installation of boilers, has been launched in UK.
The Boiler Scrap Scheme, first announced in the Chancellor Alistair Darling’s Pre Budget Report, would ensure that up to 125,000 households in England who own ‘G-rated’ boilers can now apply through the Energy Saving Trust for a voucher that will entitle them to £400 off the price of a new, modern A-rated energy-efficient boiler or a renewable heating system, such as a biomass boiler or a heat pump.
The UK Government claims that the new boiler scheme would help sustain work for 130,000 installers and over 25 UK-based boiler manufacturers. In addition to boosting the UK economy, the Government believes the incentive scheme would cut household energy bills by between £200 to £235 per annum and save about 140,000 tonnes of CO2 per year – equivalent to taking 45,000 cars off the road.
Most stakeholders in the UK energy industry , including the Heating and Hotwater Industry Council (HHIC), has welcomed the scheme saying it believes that the new boiler scrappage scheme will bring new life into the domestic heating industry. It sees one of the main benefits of the new boiler voucher scheme is its simplicity and availability to all manufacturers, merchants and installers, as it can be up and running within a few weeks.
As from the 18th of January, the Energy Savings Trust (EST) will begin issuing the £400 vouchers to those homeowners who have successfully applied for the recently launched Government boiler scheme.
Several energy companies, including British Gas and nPower, also plan to match the Government’s boiler discount, allowing consumers to save up to £800 off the cost of a new modern energy–efficient boiler.
