Hearing loss is characterized by the inability to hear sounds coming from the environment. Studies say that 1 in 10 people are affected by loss of hearing to different degrees.Not many people know this, but there are in fact different types of hearing loss and not just one kind. The hearing loss type depends heavily on where the affected area of the hearing pathway is. Some form of hearing loss can be impossible to cure with current medicinal technology, but some types are.People who cannot properly transmit sound from the outer and middle ear part to the inner ear is said to be suffering from conductive hearing loss. Breakdowns along the ear canal, the middle ear cavity, the inner ear and the nerves up to the cpu of the brain that processes the auditory signals are included in this type of hearing disorder.
A couple of other things that can cause conductive hearing problems include tumors or unusual growth in the outer or middle ear, a malformation in this part of the ear, or an infection. The infection can usually be fixed by antibiotics, and the other two issues may need surgery to fix.If your voice sounds soft to you and you have difficulty understanding speech, you may have a sensori-neural loss which is also known as nerve deafness. If you are sensitive to loud sounds, have difficulty hearing speech in noisy places and tend to speak in a loud voice, you probably have a sensori-neural problem.
Conductive hearing loss can be more temporary the sensorineural type since it is usually an obstruction of some sort that needs to be removed like excessive earwax or other foreign object interrupting sound to the inner ear. Sensorineural issues are unfortunately more permanent and have less chance for hearing restoration without the use of hearing aids.Another type of hearing loss is called sensorineural hearing loss. Unlike conductive type, the affected part is that of the inner ear specifically the cochlea. In the cochlea, there's what we call the organ of Corti that has hair cells. Abnormalities in these hair cells can lead to sensorineural hearing impairment.
Another similar cause of hearing loss is playing musical instruments too loudly. It is found that playing and practicing in a school band or orchestra can actually cause hearing loss. This is true when the music is practiced in an enclosed area.Ear bud headphones have been found to be more damaging than over-the-ear style headphone. Ear buds creates more impact as they are closer to the inner ear. The advantage of over-the-ear style headphones is that they have noise cancellation that eliminates background noise without having to turn up the volume.Don't let hearing loss effect your well being for another day.
