Turf Suppliers - Choosing the right turf and supplier for your garden.

When it comes to landscaping your new or old garden you are probably going to end up buying turf. Laying turf is far quicker and easier than growing your new lawn from seed, and often ends up being far cheaper as well!

Laying a turf lawn will give you an instant lawn ready for use in just a couple of weeks and looking great from the day you lay the turf. There will be no worrying about birds eating all your expensive grass seed, no hassle with weeds and far less work in the long term.

So which turf?

When choosing your turf it is important to select the right grade or blend for you, points to consider:

- will the lawn be subjected to heavy traffic (children playing)?
- Is the lawn in a shaded area?
- Do you just want a decorative ornamental lawn?
- Does your garden suffer from drought?

Most Turf Suppliers will offer a range of turf types to suit your needs, family lawns generally need a more robust hard wearing turf, where as ornamental lawns are generally less hardwearing and require more attention.

Turf Growers offers a great range of specialised turf types to suit your garden.

Which Turf Supplier?

Once you have identified the type of lawn you require, you then need to select your turf supplier. Turf growers are located across the UK but it is important to choose the right one. Always choose a turf supplier who supplies turf grown by a TGA member (Turf Growers Association), TGA members grow their turf to the highest standards. It is also important to select a turf which has been grown on the best possible turf growing topsoils (sandy loams). The Northwest of England is a stronghold for quality turf suppliers (most of the best turf in the country is grown in this area) this is due to the fine, fertile sandy soils found around the south Lancashire plains.

Make sure your turf supplier cuts the turf freshly to order, it is important to get turf that is freshly cut and lay it as quickly as possible, this prevents yellowing and the turf dying in the roll. Quality turf suppliers should be able to cut turf the day before it is delivered to you, this will give you a couple of days grace for turf laying (check out our turf laying guide).
