Inexpensive truck bed mats protect from impacts better than any other type of liner available. It's more than just scratches that damage pickup beds. Hits that result in dents are more difficult to repair than scratches for certain. That's where rubber mats are so beneficial. That thick material soaks up hits and stops dents. The rubber spreads the force from impacts over a larger area stopping most all dents from ever appearing.

Plastic bed liners also help stops dents to beds too, but at a far higher price. But if your pickup hauls anything that can produce dents, it's best to cover the bed either with a plastic liner or a rubber mat.

Bed Mats Avoid Chemical Damage

Many materials eat at bed liners and can turn a liner into a mess. That's another advantage to the rubber mats. It's not that no kind of chemical could possibly harm a liner. It's just that the material will stand just about any chemical you likely will find in contact with a truck bed mat. Greases and oils, for instance, are no problem at all.

Protection for Bed Liners

Rubber truck bed mats often rest above more expensive liners to protect the liners. That's for the reasons already mentioned, especially the dent-protection and the no-slip feature. That's because it only makes good sense to sacrifice a cheap mat to protect a much more costly, but more fragile, liner.

That goes for drop in plastic bed liners as well as spray on liners and even carpet liners too.

Pickup Bed Mats -- For Slip Stopping

Cargo slipping and sliding makes for all kinds of problems. Firstly, there's damage to cargo from banging into the pickup bed sides, front and back. Every time loads move, there's a chance for banging up the bed as well. That may mean dents or at least scratches. Neither results in anything good.

Rubber mats hold cargo right in place. The rubber is non-skid, but there's more. These mat include cord strands to produce even more friction and holding power. The texture of the material locks loads in place.

Plastic liners, as mentioned, are excellent for preventing dents. Plastic makes for slips and slides though. Rubber mats stop that as well as dents. That's why rubber over plastic makes for double protection.

Easy In And Out

Installing means just rolling out a liner in the bed and you're done. That way, you can slip in a mat to temporarily protect your permanent liner and slip it out when you're finished with a hauling project. The only problem is the weight of the mats. That's really not a big issue either. It's very manageable.

Rubber Bed Mat Choices

Several companies make bed mats. Order on-line and shipping is often free.

Another popular brand is the Trail FX. This one costs a bit more, but owners praise the quality and say it justifies the extra cost. Though either the DeeZee or the Trail FX are plenty tough.

DeeZee is a popular mat that's heavy duty but light on price. Like most of these mats, you want a custom fit that has your wheel well cut-outs in just the right places. The DeeZee works just for short bed pickups, so for longer beds look at another brand.

Protecta mats are popular too. These often are stocked in local auto parts stores so you may be able to see what you're getting without ordering it.

Another Bed Mat Option

I asked at my local parts store and got a mat overnight. It's a no-name mat. At least it doesn't have a name on it, but it's heavy and designed just like it should be. It's ribbed on top for easy loading. It's textured for no-slip. It's pebbled underneath to let any water escape. Plus, it was a perfect fit.

Plus, it only cost $50 even plus tax.

It may be worth asking locally since my experience says other truck bed mats suppliers exist other than the ones that show up often.
