The Purple Bamboo Park which is also known as the Black Bamboo Park or Zizhuyuan is one of the seven biggest and most beautiful parks found in Beijing.
The garden is complete with almost 50 different types of bamboo species and is a blend of mountain and water landscaped areas. The most significant feature here is the black bamboo.
This attractive bamboo park which is also one of the country’s leading tourist attractions is positioned towards the west of the famous Beijing Zoo and the National Library. This 14 hectare park features three spectacular connecting lakes that alone occupy an area of about 11 hectares of the park.
On the eastern shore of the lakes, visitors will come across quite a number of charming small natural hills. The lakes, isles and hills at the Purple Bamboo Park are linked by 5 bridges. Visitors will find lovely trees and flowers planted beautifully along the banks of the lakes and on the islands. Towards the north of the lakes is the renowned Changhe River that flows gently and gradually.
The peaceful yet exciting Bamboo Park comes with leisure areas to play and exercise, cafes, tea houses and even a miniature crafts market.
The Purple Bamboo Park is also rich in historical importance. It is believed that the lakes found at this impressive bamboo park were formed during the Yuan Dynasty as reservoirs.
Years later, the WanShouSi temple or the Temple of Longevity was built during the Ming Dynasty. However the temple is now no more and just two stone steles remain at the site. Towards the North West side of the park on the edge of the river, there are traces of a boat dock.
Those who wish to further explore this delightful Bamboo Park can do so by staying at a well serviced Beijing Hotel. Travellers can also stay at a top class Luxury Hotel in Beijing and experience professional service along with a range of lavish and modern facilities.
