The magnificent capital of Austria is home to lots of renowned|popular} hot spots that not only makes up its attractiveness but makes this city a large sightseer destination. One sight that is esteemed by people of Vienna and tourists alike is the Hofburg, Vienna's Imperial Palace. Nonetheless, to really experience this splended sight, you cannot simply stay in your Vienna apartments, but rather you need to get out there and visit for yourself.
The Hofburg is the earlier imperial residence that was the seat of emperors and kings from 1438 to 1583 and from 1612 to 1806. Until 1918 it became the seat of the Empire of Austria and today it is officially recognized as the Austrian Federal President.
Originally a medieval castle, which to now only has the castle chapel to reveal its medieval past, these days the complex is home to the National Library, Imperial Treasure, Museum of Ethnograghy, houses a collection of weapons, musical instruments and the famous Spanish School.
Its past further extends furthermore as it has housed various influential personalities in Austria's significant history. A few of these include: rulers of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Habsburg dynasty. Further, this was also the place of birth of Marie Antoinette in 1755.
Also, the famous Empire of the Habsburgs was ruled from the Imperial Palace for more than seven centuries.
In the present day however, it officially stands as the residence of the President of Austria. Additionally the Vienna Boys' Choir sings in the Gothic Imperial Chapel throughout High Mass on Sunday as a relic of the Imperial Palace centuries previously.
Fascinatingly though, one night in November 1992, a large fire began in the Hofburg, which resulted in a division of the upper floor and roof being burnt down entirely. Renovations were in place and subsequently complete in 1997 where the newly-built division now enclose wall and ceiling paintings.
