How is it that one person can seem to be relaxed and another person wound up like a rubber band? Have you ever really sat and thought about what makes you relax? The art of relaxation is not just a great gift to your mind and body, it is actually an art in itself. There are so many different ways to relax that it has become it's own art form.
The definition of relaxation is as follows: an activity or recreation that provides such relief; diversion and or entertainment. So with that in mind, what are some great things that you can do in order to relax. Often people believe that watching the television is a form of relaxation but in actuality it tends to be a form of stimulation rather than relaxation. But maybe it you just listened to the television that might stimulate your brain into a sort of relaxation because your eyes are being rested and mind has to work to picture the dialog. Most types of music can be classified as a way to relax your body and mind. Any type of activity that you can enjoy with out the use of sight will tend to relax your body.
Many techniques of relaxation revolve around good breathing techniques. Yoga, Tai-Chi and many martial art disciplines will focus on proper breathing. In general a majority of the population is truly unaware of what a proper breathing technique is all about. Close your eyes and listen to yourself breath; is the breathing slow, shallow, deep, or quick? Taking deep breaths from time to time will give your body and your brain the extra oxygen that it is sorely missing. Inhaling through your nose and exhaling from your mouth is a great way to start relaxing. Focus on where your breath is going into your body. You can feel your breath all the to your toes if you focus well enough.
There are so many ways to relax. But maybe if you combine one or two of the techniques, you might find yourself relaxed quicker than you thought. Think about your breathing and what you want to achieve through your relaxation and you just might become your own master of relaxation.
