That number made her only the 5th female teen crooner to have reached the Billboard roof, at the age of 18. And that’s not all there is to this stunning young woman! Taylor has already come away with many awards that include three Grammys.

This songster born in Pennsylvania began jotting down songs at the age of 10. At about the same age she also started attending and taking part in vocal events including local fests, public or state fairs and karaoke contests around Wyomissing. Additionally, Taylor has won a poetry contest when in the 4th grade. Her entry was called “Monster In My Closet,” and that covered three pages.

Her first brush with the penning of lyrics came after she became versed in three guitar chords, taught to Swift by a a repairer of computers. Swift composed a song entitled “Lucky You,” and followed it with many more which she used as therapy to cope with her difficulty fitting in the classroom.

Inspired by country vocalists like Dolly Parton, Tina Turner, LeAnn Rimes, Shania Twain, Patsy Cline and the Dixie Chicks, she, made it to Nashville at the age of 11, wishing to sign a record deal based on the demo she’d taped of her performing skills. As fate would have it, nothing came of that but an introduction to rejection.

Swift didn’t give in. Shortly after Taylor came back home Swift received media favor for her rendition of the national anthem, performed at the US Open tournament. She began using the 12-string guitar by age 12 and kept visiting Nashville, teaming up with locally known songwriters and writing songs. By the time she was 14 her parents made up their minds to move to a suburb in Nashville where Taylor was proffered a contract with RCA Record at 15, but opted against signing up with them.

Shortly afterwards, she caught the attention of Scott Borchetta who’d just got his new label going – Big Machines Records. She released her first single titled “Tim McGraw” in 2006. It reached No 6 on the Billboard Country Chart. She released her first album, titled ‘Taylor Swift,’ a couple of months later. It was an instant hit. In two years’ time that album has already sold over 3 million copies and downloads have numbered 7.5 million singles.

Her subsequent album, Fearless, was released about two years later in November, 2008. It went straight to the summit of the Billboard 200 Album Chart and rewrote history on several other counts. The unimagined success prompted Taylor to organize her first tour titled after Fearless. The Fearless Tour 2009 kicked off on the 23rd of April, 2009 in Evansville, Indiana. It lasted 6 months including 50 cities around the world with all shows getting sold-out rapidly, making it one of the most attended and discussed performances in 2009.

On observing its success Taylor has now announced the second leg entitled the Fearless Tour 2010 which will kick off in Australia in February 2010 and draws to a close on the 2nd of June in the US.
