The human body is majorly water, the body is 70%, brain 85% and blood is 90% water. Even our liver is 96% water. No wonder, water is so important for us as a health resource. It is of course quite natural to assume that water has to be good quality as it can have a significant impact on our overall health and well being.
We have been exposed to a number of toxins over the years, and at times the water we get is more like a chemical soap! EPA’s records have clearly indicated that US water supplies have more than 2,000 carcinogenic chemicals in the water. America uses about 80,000 toxic chemicals and yearly discovery rate of chemicals amounts to about a 1,000 per year. Of course, with these new chemicals we do not know the long term risks and exposure effects, or even the combined exposure effect. When the water has about 20 of these chemicals in trace amount, in a glass of water, what would you be drinking? We learn the effects of these synthetic chemicals the hard way, on a daily basis.
Some Facts and Figures:
Long ago, about 70 years back, before water systems had lots of chemicals in them, about
2% of Americans were expected to be diseased with cancer. However, in today’s date, 33% of the population is prone to cancer, while in males this is a whooping rate of 50%! A direct relationship can be made between the increased in synthetic chemicals and the increase in cancer expectation. The risk of degenerative diseases like cancer increases with increased amount of chemicals in water. Moreover, where ever in the world there is a high level of synthetic chemicals, risk of degenerative diseases becomes high. There are several states where this problem can be seen. For example, San Francisco has a very high level of THMs and breast cancer. New Orleans has a significantly high level of VOCs, Colon and Bladder Cancer. A very strong relationship can be seen quite easily in this case.
Plan of Action:
The primary action step is to drink more water. This water has to be healthy and pure. One of the sure shot ways to get enough water in the body is to use a larger glass. A 12 ounce glass will get more water in the body without much effort. The formula of 64 ounces of water was published long ago in medical journals even before the level of chemicals may have been what it is right now, in the water system. The exposure to chemicals is significantly greater now, as we have pesticides on our food, traces of chemicals in the water and in the air etc. Our body uses the water in the system for many processes. These include temperature control, hydration of the body, production of energy, metabolic activities, digestion etc. our body can only detoxify itself and flush out all toxins when we drink water more than the required minimum level. The more water we intake, the more water can be used to purify the body. The required 10 to 12 glasses of water that we drink can help the body quite significantly. Water looks better in a glass, it even tastes better, and of course it makes you drink more water as well!
Since our bodies are more or less water, drinking a lot of water makes sense so that our bodies do not get dehydrated and face health problems. A minimum level of water to drink is 12 glasses to wash out all toxins and make the body healthy. Of course, quality of the water matters as well!
