Nevada has done it again. We made national headlines. Could it be that we, the Silver State have done something incredible for the nation? Nah, that would be boring. We have to continue to do things that make national news AND keep the world thinking that everyone who lives here is an alcoholic, gambling, prostitute or gangster. Honestly though, these guys up in Carson City are starting to make Las Vegas look completely sane compared to them. Yes, I am saying I would expect this type of stuff in Vegas, but not in rural Nevada. Right now the whole state looks crazy and we do not need that.
So what is it this time? I opened up the news this morning only to see this as the headline. Nev. Candidate Pushes Pay-to-Speed Program. This is 'Gino' DiSimone's idea to help Nevada out of its growing deficit. The premise behind this idea is that if you were running late and you felt the need to speed to get where you were going, you could call a number, pay some money, and get a pass for the day to speed. The cops are not real thrilled with this plan.
How ridiculous. First let's look at the safety issues on this one. Think really hard. If you have people speeding down the road at 100 mph and people just driving at 60, or even worst, people driving at 40, then what kind of mess are you going to have. Then what if there are traffic problems? What if there is no way for the new buyer of the "speedy" ticket to speed? THen what? Do they call the speedy office and ask for a refund while waiting in traffic or does a special bridge roll down frm the heavens to carry them over the traffic?
I was just wondering--How is this going to save us money again? Won't we still have to have cops on the road to check those who are speeding to make sure that they bought the right to speed? I mean how else would they get by with speeding? If there was no one checking then everyone could speed. Then wouldn't we have to hire extra workers to answer all of the calls for those wishing to speed? What about all of the extra emergency personnel we would need for the extra accidents? Oh and while we are pulling people over to check if they have a "speeding receipt" and making them even more late to where they were going, maybe we can check for their immigration status too?
What is this all about? Please do not tell me that anyone is taking this seriously. I am a little afraid because it did make national news, but I am hoping that it made national news as one of the dumbest things anyone has ever heard. If not I am a we bit unsure what is happening in AMerica. Actually I was already a huge bit afraid about what was happening in America, but this will definetely do it for me.
