One of the most annoying things to me is spammy mass marketers. Why they waste there time with this strategy is beyond me. Especially in social networks and communities. This does not work. I would like to meet one rich spammer. I don’t think there is one. So why do people keep trying thinking this will work? Everyday my junk mail folder is full of very un personal emails about some drug or money making scheme. Some of this stuff might be very good stuff and I might be able to get some use out of it however this marketing is so intrusive, un personal and in my face I still would never give these people the time of day no matter what.
You know who I am talking about. They fill your twitter account with links to the “best business opportunity on the planet” or the people that send you those auto reply messages when you follow them “check out my business (or product) here” It’s not just on twitter though. It’s EVERYWHERE! Email, Facebook, Myspace, Youtube, even comments on my blog. Its seriously out of control. If you are one of these people don’t feel bad you probably don’t know any better. Just stop wasting your time. This type of marketing simply doesn’t work. I have to admit I was guilty of this my self for a long time. Until I realized that I was not only wasting my time, but my money as well and was never going to be successful with this approach.
Think about this like a partner of the opposite sex that you would like to get to know better. Do you find out where they live, sneak in there house and take all your clothes off, sit on the couch and wait for them to get home? No. So why do you do this in your marketing? You take them out for a nice meal, whine and dine them, get to know them better build a relationship first.
Here is another funny example I just thought of. If you wanted to find a date tonight would you send out a email like this to every girl you know. “Hello everyone, I am free tonight so I wanted to so see who would like me to come over? Send me a email back and I let you know If I am still free at that point.” I don’t think you would get very good luck. Yet I get tons of emails just like this from home business people all the time. Here is example of one I got the other day. “I have been marketing online now for more than seven years, with some success . The money generated from my online businesses are used to support myself and to invest in other opportunities. I WON’T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH A LOT OF SMALL TALK…I AM SEARCHING FOR SERIOUS AND MOTIVATED ENTREPRENEURS WHO ARE COMMITTED TO MAKING A REALISTIC PAY CHECK DURING THEIR FIRST YEAR.”
How is that any different? Does that really make you want to invest money and partner with this guy? Maybe for some people but not very many. This is wasted effort. Not only that but this type of email is not going to attract the successful person that this person really wants to help him build a strong business. This email will attracted if anyone broke minded people.
Just like dating the same thing applies to marketing business or product or service. Especially in the social networks. SLOW down in stead of concentrating on how many people you can send out a email to and how many people you can get to go to your website. Concentrate on one person at a time. In the next article I write I am going to talk about creating a customer avatar and naming it. In stead of trying to market to the word it is far more effective to marketer to one really specific type of person. To really narrow down who you are marketing to and speak DIRECTLY to them. You want them to be thinking WOW this person really understands me. They really get me. That is when you will really start to make sales. Build solid rapport and relationships with people first.
Provide real value and content. Give a way a bunch of stuff that your ideal customer would need for free. Show them that you care and prove that you can help them. Make them feel like a real person. Put your information out there in places that they are looking. Let them come to you. If you really want to start getting good results for less effort do not be spammy marketer. Send out millions of desperate emails, messages or what ever every single day. Let your new business partners come to you. Make sure that you are highly findable.
