Most people are aware of marriage issues of divorce and separation, these issues primarily impacting those of a younger age or newlyweds. But there are a lot of new problems that arrive in marriages as people get older, problems with a lot of stress involved.

The aging process brings on some more maturing processes but it also introduces new and different problems to discuss. Usually after you've been together for a long time divorce isn't going to be on the table but there will need to be discussions about health, retirement and financial problems that will arise during this time.

As couples get older one of the most important things to consider is how you're going to spend your retirement. A plan in place prior to this transition can be very helpful instead of just allowing it to happen because sometimes when people find themselves together in a house all day there can be problems. Boredom becomes an issue which brings frustration and hostility into the relationship, this can be avoided if there is some planning involved to bring activities back into previously active lives.

The problem of an incapacitated spouse and caregiving by the other partner is another big issue facing older couples. This can happen to young people too but is common in the older crowd. This requires a support system to be able to get through it whether it be family, friends or a community group of some kind. Through this support the caretaker can talk and vent and be able to get out of the house on a periodic basis. With these escapes it helps the caregiver maintain the love and caring to maintain a healthy relationship even through terrible sickness.

Not all change is bad, but it requires adapting to circumstances and functioning through the love that you have for one another. Keeping focused on the love will help you through whatever life has in store.
