It's just normal for people to lose hair everyday. On average, about 50 to 100 strands of hair fall off from our scalp everyday. But that isn't always the case. Some people experience severe hair loss. Two of the most common reasons are genetics and poor hair/scalp care practices.

If you're like everybody else who are looking for answers on how to prevent hair loss, there isn't one. Why? Because your hair strands have lifespans too. Once these strands reach their limit, they fall off. What you can do, though, is try to lessen the amount of hair that falls off or prevent severe hair loss.

How can you manage severe hair shedding? Here are some simple tips:

  1. Use mild shampoos. Specially if you're already predisposed to severe hair loss. Using strong or harsh shampoos can irritate the scalp and make hair fall off easier. Also it can damage the hair strand, making it easier for hair to break.
  2. Avoid using cheap conditioners and shampoos. More often than not, inexpensive hair care products contain a lot of chemicals that may have an adverse effect on the hair and scalp.
  3. Avoid subjecting your hair and scalp to harmful chemicals and processes. These chemicals include hair dye, perming/straightening products, etc. Repeated coloring, curling, or straightening abuses the hair strands, stripping it of its natural protective layer, making it susceptible to break of fall off.
  4. Avoid blocking your pores. For people who exercise a lot and do not shower immediately after, dried up sweat in their scalp may block pores, making it difficult for the scalp to “breathe”, thus resulting to hair loss. The same thing goes with people who use of gels and hair sprays all the time and do not wash their hair thoroughly. The residue of the chemicals may end up blocking the pores of the scalp.
  5. Watch what you eat. Having a balanced diet ensures that your hair gets all the nutrition it needs to stay strong and healthy. Also, vitamin A and E should be taken in moderation as an excess of these vitamins have been linked to hair loss.
Your hair deserves just as much care as any other part of your body. So if you do care for your crowning glory, do heed these tips.
