Whilst most people automatically think of football when deciding on purchasing a piece of sports memorabilia, there are actually a growing number of signed items appearing on the market from various other sports.

One of which is golf...........

Golf is very much a worldwide sport and because of this the main names currently playing the game at the top level originate from all over the planet. Many of the games top players are american, but Europe, Australia, South Africa and South America amongst others have given us some of the leading talents currently entertaining us each week.

The biggest name of all is Tiger Woods. There are many signed Tiger Woods items currently available, but collectors must be very wary when deciding whether to purchase as there are a lot of fakes about and Woods does not sign huge amounts of memorabilia. Other names to consider when looking for a piece of golf memorabilia are Ernie Els, Phil Mickelson, Retief Goosen, V.J Singh, Angel Cabrera, Paul Casey, Geoff Ogilvy, Lee Westwood, Jose Maria Olazabal, Luke Donald, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Sergio Garcia, Padraig Harrington, Ian Poulter, Henrik Stenson and Adam Scott. Obviously there are other names, but you will not go far wrong with the players above.

So what type of golf memorabilia should you be looking for?

The obvious one is the signed photograph. This is especially suited to the sport of golf as the game is played on such beautiful courses and any signed golf photograph is going to be very appealing on the eye. Many collectors go for action shots of a specific player, but you can also choose a trophy shot or simply a photograph of a famous golf course hole. For instance the 12th at Augusta National or the 17th at Sawgrass. A photograph of one of these signed by your favourite player would make a great collectable. Why not either mount or frame your signed photograph to allow it to look its best?

How about a signed golf cap? Golf caps come in many colours and designs and choosing the make of cap that the player who has signed it uses is a great idea. A Yonex cap signed by Colin Montgomerie or a Callaway cap signed by Ernie Els is going to be a stunning collectable or gift. A cap can also be multi signed which allows you to get the signatures of many of the worlds top players on one item. Display cases especially designed for golf caps are available from certain retailers and show your cap off in style.

There are other types of golf memorabilia on the market including balls, gloves, shirts and flags. Any of which would make a great edition to a sports memorabilia collection.

Golf memorabilia can be used as part of a collection or as a gift for a friend or loved one. It can also look very good displayed on the walls of a golf club or golf shop. Just imagine your local golf course's clubhouse walls lined with photographs and golf caps signed by greats like Ernie Els, Colin Montgomerie and Padraig Harrington?

If your thinking of purchasing a piece of signed memorabilia then take your time deciding which sport and don't forget golf as this can be a very rewarding collection to start.
