Parents all across America should be concerned when their dog starts to lick their child on the face, hands or other parts of the body. Dogs are known for carrying tons of germs because they go outside into the street and eat garbage from the street and often lay in grass that is infested with bugs, pesticides and other debris. Many parents that buy their children pets will often let their dogs run up to them and start licking everyone that they see. This is not sanitary at all. I have seen many parents allow their dog to share their children's food as well. Many men and women see this as being perfectly harmless since the pet is part of the family. The problem is that many parents see a dog much like a person. This can lead to tons of confusion as to whether or not licking is okay.

In my personal opinion, you should never allow a dog to lick your child in any way. This is mainly because you don't know where your pet has been. If you have a backyard, then chances are your pet has been running around in its own feces and that spreads germs. Worst of all, many dogs tend to smell and lick whatever they find interesting outside and then bring it into your house.

Kids don't know any better. They simply think that a doggy lick is a cute way of the dog showing them love. Little to they know that the dog could have been biting bugs and other nasty stuff outside of the house.

Pet owners that allow their dogs to play outside will often dread having them come back into the house because they don't wan them tracking mud on the nice clean carpet. It is amazing that many parents allow the dog back into the house without a bath or wipe down. They then allow their dog to climb all over the couch and lick everyone that they see.

Dog specialists say that a dog is not really licking you because it wants to express its love to you. It is actually trying to lick the salt off of your body and every other part of your face. Human being interpret this to mean that their dog loves them and in reality, it is a way for a dog to taste salt.

I always have my children wear gloves when they are around the dog until it has been washed and bathed. If I see the dog licking my kids face, I always tell it to stop because I don't know where its mouth has been. Many parents have mixed ideas about this and I can understand why. I just could not see myself giving my child anything dirty. Therefore, why should my dog spread germs.
