What is security? It is a protection against danger, damage, uncertain loss, and crime. Security can be compared with three concepts which are safety, continuity and reliability.
What is Security Guard? A security guard, sometimes also called security officer is a person who protects property, assets and people in return of payment. They are personnel who are privately and formally employed. He wears his uniform which helps other to judge his personality. The work of security officers is to check against crime or any disorder either directly or by analyzing video cameras or alarm systems. If they judged anything wrong then they inform about that to their master.
Security guard does not only mean a person standing outside a home or on road or outside showrooms. They are also selected to provide protection to country. They are trained properly so that they can perform their duty well. Sometimes they have to get registered also. They require their license to do their job. There are certain criteria of issuing this license or for training also. Like only those people are registered or trained whose age is minimum 18 years? They have to go through medical checkup to check that they are not addicted to drugs or they are affected by any other disease. They have to go through very strict rules and policies during their training. Their schedule is too tough and busy during their training.
What kind of training is needed to become a security guard? The academic requirement does not matter to go into this field. Still if you have done some course related to this field it will gives you an advantage. There are so many types of security guards. Surveillance officers are those who protect us through visualizing cameras. They get their training in an atmosphere where they use surveillance cameras. Armed guards are those who carry guns with them. They receive their training in areas where they can use weapons and fully follow all laws covering the use of force. The criteria for getting job in federal government, they must need experience in the security field. They also have to clear a written exam, and also need to clear firearms and first aid tests.
Every country has different criteria for this job. For example, In New York the security guards have to complete three training courses. Armed guards need to complete two additional training courses. These courses should be done from approved training schools and certified instructors. Otherwise they are not approved for job. The first one is Pre-Assignment Training course which includes general introduction. Upon successful completion of this course the guard has issued a training certificate. With this certificate, they get registered in security department of country or state. Upon submitting the application, they have 90 days second training course.
