Much has been written regarding cures and therapies for those suffering from psoriasis. Over the years many claims have been made about miracle cures or treatments that alleviate the disfiguring signs of psoriasis. Some of these claims are based on fact; many seek to entice psoriasis sufferers into purchasing expensive products or treatments that have little or no effect on psoriasis.
Much research has been carried out into the causes of psoriasis. Some research points to environmental factors, others to dietary habits and others to stress. One thing all these researches have in common is that all state conclusively that, to date there is no known cure for psoriasis.

One scientific institute, established in 1993 specifically to investigate psoriasis and possible therapeutic treatments, is the Dead Sea Medical Research Center. The center, working in conjunction with Israel’s renowned Ben Gurion University in the Negev, has been examining the indisputable therapeutic effects the natural elements of the Dead Sea have on psoriasis sufferers.

Ancient writings dating back over 3000 years to the ancient Egyptians, extol the wonders of the Dead Sea and the treatment of psoriasis. Obviously, they had a different name for the ailment but descriptions point definitively to skin diseases such as psoriasis and eczema. The ancient writings talk of the “miraculous” transformation that psoriasis sufferers underwent after just a few days bathing in the saline waters and using mud packs of Dead Sea mud. Dry and flaky skin gradually disappeared, lesions healed and new, fresh skin made its appearance. Furthermore, these descriptions tell of the long lasting effect of the treatments and of exceptionally long periods of remission.

Testimony regarding the effects of this area’s natural resources on psoriasis can be found throughout history and through to the modern era. The Dead Sea research Institute was established to investigate these qualities in an attempt to find scientific and medical supporting evidence and possibly even a cure.

So far, the Institute has yet to find a cure, but it has succeeded in finding conclusive scientific evidence that explains the amazing therapeutic effects the Dead Sea has on sufferers from psoriasis, eczema and other skin diseases as well as the aches and pains of those suffering from rheumatism.
