Well actually it doesn’t matter which GM Rewards Credit Card you choose, you will still get your rewards. That reward is earnings that you can use towards the purchase of a new GM vehicle. Each of the four card in the family offer their own levels of rewards to its users but they will satisfy in the end.
Let’s start with the heavyweight, the GM Business Card. As the name suggest it focused more on those people who run businesses. As such it has a 3 tiered earnings percentage which breaks a purchase down into 3 different categories and gives them the corresponding earnings percentage.
Top of the tier are purchases of GM parts or services in authorized GM dealers. For these kinds of purchases you get 5% earnings. Next are purchases that include paying for gas at the pump, buying office supplies or simply dining out. These get a 3% earnings rate. For all others such as paying for groceries you get 1% earnings.
But perhaps the biggest deal for this card is its restrictions. Oh wait there are no restrictions on this card. Unlike the other 3, which you will get to meet later, the GM Business Card has no earning expiration date and no redemption limitations. That means you can earn as much credits as you want with no fear of them disappearing and what you earn you can use 100% towards the purchase of that new GM vehicle.
This next card doesn’t have the no expiration power of the GM Business Card but at least it has its unlimited redemption allowance. This is the GM Extended Family Card and top of the earnings you also get the option of cash back rewards.
You earn 1% on all your purchases but at the same time you also earn 1% cash back rewards. However, it’s not earnings AND cash back but rather earnings OR cash back – you choose which one. If you choose cash back you will get it in $50 increments.
A card that also has cash back rewards is the GM Flexible Earnings Card. It too has a 1% cash back reward option set at $100 increments. It has a higher earnings percentage on all purchase at 3% but it has a 7 year earnings expiration date and a redemption allowance of between $1,000 to $3,000 equivalent credits depending on the GM model you choose.
Finally there is the GM Card. It has no cash back reward option and it also has that 7 year earnings expiration date and the same redemption allowance limit. It does have, however, a 5% earnings percentage on all purchases making it perhaps the fastest card when it comes to earning capability.
All these cards are powered by MasterCard (MasterCard World for the GM Business Card) and three of them are offered by HSBC with the GM Business Card offered by Chase. They all have 0% introductory APR on purchases and balance transfers which increases to a variable rate after 12 months (6 cycles for the GM Business Card).
