Remove Negative Thoughts and Be Present In Your Life
Being diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome at an early age of fifteen, 24 years ago, I’ve had a lot of time to explore what caused my extreme tiredness, which I talk about in another article I wrote on the cause of chronic fatigue syndrome about how my thoughts created my tiredness after learning the laws of the universe and how my thoughts were prior to being diagnosed with cfs, and they were, “I’m tired and I need a rest.” And that is exactly what I got, a long extended one. In this article I’m going to give you ways to keep your mind present and not on previous and future thoughts and also ways to help you to let go of negative thoughts and produce healthier ones.
The first thing you need to do is to be able to observe your thoughts and see when you’re mind is in a negative state. Sometimes you will be too close to your thoughts, so what you need is to get someone to tell you when your thoughts turn negative. In my case it was my husband, Steve. What can also help is to journal write; it helped me to see exactly what was going on in my mind, a clearer picture. Don’t beat yourself up if you do see negative htoughts. Remember that’s the person you were and at the time you couldn’t help being negative. Also keep in mind that only you can make a permanent change in your health inorder to change those habitual negative thought patterns to positive ones.
Prior and after being diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome stress-induced thoughts were definitely apart of my mind. I was a sensitive child and I became overwhelmed and stressed out easily, which created tiredness for me when the situation was all done, but with prolonged stress, I realize now that it opened me up to easily catch colds and viruses. It was clear then that if I was going to remain healthy then stress needed to be reduced in my life. So the first that helped me was to let go my old chronic fatigue thoughts by placing my attention on the present moment.
The following are two ways that helped my thoughts be present and not on my past or future ones:
1. Focused on a specific activity: thoughts will want to pull you away, realize that it’s normal, you just need to come back to what you’re focused on. What helped me is to pause, connect to my breath if I was feeling overwhelmed with negative and unproductive thoughts, which helped me to regain a focus on the activity that I was working on. Bring you more into the present of your activity.
2. Attention is wide out: Focus your attention onto your surroundings. When I feel the effects of stress, thinking old tired thoughts that hadn’t given up yet or worries about the future, I will alter my attention if possible by taking the two children out to the park because this is a place that I need to keep my focussed present on both my children and their activity. Other thing I’ve down is to go for a walk and see the beauty within the world I’m seeing.
What also helped was to use a rubber band around my wrist and snap it every time I felt myself drifting into negative thoughts. This could happen very often, like every sixty seconds. If I didn’t have a rubber band I would just pinch myself. Over a span of a week of monitoring my mind I didn’t have to pinch myself or pull the rubber band as much. Now I can catch myself faster when I start to think negative thoughts on health and lack of energy, and change my focus onto health producing ones.
Lastly whenever I noticed my mind becoming negative I created a habit of saying in a forceful tone to my thoughts: Go Away! Not helpful! And if I said it loud enough with enough energy the thoughts would go away. Get someone to tell you when your negative. My husband would often say next whenever I was talking negative. He would often have to say it four or five times before I caught on.
Removing negative thoughts and getting rid of them has been the hardest thing I ever did but it has also been the most rewarding and definitely made the biggest difference in my health. Because each time I did catch myself with a negative thought it gave me energy and I was more able to do things with my husband and two children, Emily and David. So now it is your time to give it a try and remember, Everyday and everyday I am healthy and I am strong.
