Just the thought of all those removal vans now charging along our A roads and motorways conjures up images of gas guzzling polluters chugging big black clouds out of their exhaust pipes. We all know it doesn’t have to be like that, and that there are some great companies out there who work with environmental issues in mind when carrying out their deliveries.

The first and perhaps most important environmental decision that these companies have made is to switch from petrol or diesel to more eco-friendly fuels. Biofuel and Liquid petroleum gas are both very good choices for environment. While not the perfect fuels, they cut down a great deal on harmful emissions. Biofuel in particular is a very clean fuel, cutting sulphur dioxide, smoke particles and carbon dioxide down by anything up to 70-90%.

Some companies are going as far as dropping paper from their business entirely. This is a serious move for any company. As local councils generally don’t provide a service to collect waste paper and materials for commercial buildings, it has always been up to the company to decide and pay for their own recycling requirements. Although an expensive option, the removal of paper from any business and the introduction of an internet based system can cut not only the businesses outgoings in the long run, but make communication between its employees more efficient and direct.

Cardboard is by far the best material for packaging in the removal business. Eco removals companies will either use or provide to their customers 100% recycled boxes, or offer a recycling service once the move is completed. Some even source their boxes from within their locality, which cuts down on both delivery and production emissions.

GPS and tracking software allows removal companies to get to their drop off point in the most efficient and direct route, cutting down on delivery times, emissions and noise pollution. This means no more driving around lost and doubling or even tripling overall damage to the environment.

If you’re thinking about a move to a more environmentally friendly business model, then it is advised to get into contact with a company that deals specifically with this. There is a growing sector of businesses that specifically deal with advising businesses on how to improve their carbon footprint, and will know the best ways that your company can make incremental, affordable changes.

Or if you’re a potential customer, then consider the options available to you. There are plenty of companies out there that claim to be neutral or that claim to plant a tree for a certain amount of miles driven; but there are even more now emerging that take a serious stance against their effects on the environment and do all they can to pay back to the world what they are taking away.
