History of the London Marathon:
The concept of organising the London Marathon Race was thought by the former Olympic Champion and popular journalist Chris Brasher and Welsh athlete John Disley. In the year 1979, Brasher had run the New York Marathon and this later inspired him to plan to organise one of the World Marathon majors. In the year 1980, Brasher with Disley made trips to New York and after signing a contract for £50,000 with Gillette, the foundations of the London Marathon were laid.
