The play against the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night by the Portland Trail Blazers was electrifying, and great play to close out the game. Something the Portland Trail Blazers have had a hard time completing in close games. On Monday, the Trail Blazers played in front of a small crowd, and didn't let the late game rally by the Grizzlies faze them. The steady play of defense and offense contributed to a must win. In order for the Trail Blazers to succeed they must get help from Nicolas Batum. The small Forward is playing with confidence and just making good plays down the stretch. Especially, plays such as three pointers, dunks, steals, and block shots.

First, Nicolas Batum is from France and considered one of the most talented young prospects in the NBA. Playing in the french basketball league has really helped with his development. I would say that Nicolas is far ahead of some of the 21 year olds in the NBA. At 6'8 and playing small forward, Nicholas is able to shot over smaller guards, and defend the other teams best players. To illustrate this point, Nicolas hit four three-pointers against Memphis and continue to show that he is a gifted offensive talent when needed. Although, Batum missed 45 games this season due to shoulder injury. He is showing constant stardom and impressing Coach McMillian with his performance.

Second, Batum will dunk on opposing players when needed. In other words, Batum isn't afraid to go to the rim. It's important that young players don't settle for jump shots all the time. It take guts and strength to finish at the rim, and Batum will someday be one of the best. Batum usually do the dirty work, which a lot of NBA players don't want to fit into that categorie. Each team need a player like Batum that is willing to do what is necessary to win games. Batum remind me a lot of Scottie Pippin, Dennis Rodman, Bruce Bowan, and players that normally are not the center of attention, but is the glue to the foundation. However, Batum has won the European Championship and voted most valuable player on several teams. He is a Gem in the rough, and ready to help the Blazers advance in years to come.

Third, Batum has very long arms and is athletic. He has the ability to block shots and change the way teams play offense. For example, On Monday night Mike Conley of the Memphis Grizzlies was on a fast break and ready to score, but Batum reached out and blocked the shot and stopped a important score. He is very aggressive and starting to assert himself as a leader and important swingman. The Blazers offense is geared around LaMarcus, Roy, and O'den. However, Nicholas will get his chance at providing needed help, and locking down certain star players.

Last but not least, Nicholas will help the Trail Blazers reach the playoffs. His ability to score, block, steal, dunk, and finish plays is a wanted commodity. It's refreshing to see young players not selfish and into themselves. I think Batum is a team player and willing to listen to the coach's. His performance against the Grizzlies is a reminder to the Trail Blazers that they've a remarkable talent, and please be willing to play him instead of sitting on the beach.
