If you have heard of the Swedish author Astrid Lindgren, you probably remember her most popular character, Pippi Longstocking. Pippi and her adventures are well-known in Europe but also in America. It has been created a large amount of books and films about this little rebel-minded child.

There have been written a great number of literature and created many films about Pippi's exploits. The original name of this lovable child is Pippi Långstrump in Swedish literature. Some well-known stories about Pippi are Pippi Longstocking in the Park, Pippi in the Seven Seas and Pippi after Christmas Party. The movie Pippi in the Seven Seas (1970) is the very thrilling adventure.

Pippi is the girl that many boy or girl dreams of being and she lets us see that anything is possible. This girl is the public enemy number one in positive way and her behavior is occasionally bizarre. Pippi does what she wants to do and wants things to be done her way. Though Pippi is a little girl she is intelligent and understands a lot of things. But she is a considerable liar too. There is one thing that many children remember about Pippi: this girl is very strong. This young rebel can easily raise her horse Little Old Man up from the ground.

Pippi has several good buddies but the best friends are Annika and Tommy, the kids who live near the Pippi's extraordinary and large house, "Villa Villekulla". Certainly, Pippi's good friends are her pet animals, a pet chimpanzee Mr. Nilsson and Little Old Man.

This lively pigtailed girl with oversized shoes is always shown to be happy and has optimistic approach even if she is in trouble. Pippi longstocking is not at all malicious and understands what's wrong and what's right. Pippi would like to to keep her friends safe but not like very much certain people such as the teacher of Tommy and Annika. But she never wants genuine harm to anybody.

Astrid Lindgren made the first Pippi Longstocking book in 1945 and several early Pippi movies have created in 1969 and 1970. The Swedish performer Inger Nilsson, who acted as Pippi was born in 1959, so Inger Nilsson was about 10 years old when she acted in the old Pippi films. Astrid Lindgren who developed a lot of well-known characters and fairy tales died in 2002 when she was 94. If you have familiar with Lindgren's life's work you maybe know tales about The Brothers Lionheart, Karlsson-On-The-Roof, Ronia The Robber's Daughter, Emil Of Lonneberga, Seacrow Island or The Children Of Noisy Village.

Today, there are many modern animated cartoon movies of Pippi Longstocking. These animated DVD movies are holiday favorites among younger and older children alike.
