Man is a social animal and no, it is very difficult for man to live outside the periphery of society. Every human being is born within a web of relationships and he creates more such webs as he walks the path of life. One of the most important and strong relationships is that between the parents and the child. This was at least what people used to think in the last century. But like many other things, the relationship between the child and his parents are also changing and perhaps for the worse.

It is very well known fact that divorces have become a very common phenomenon all over the world. It is perhaps the curse of industrialization, or the side effect. But whatever may be the story behind it, we cannot stay away from the reality called divorce. With divorce, another factor is very much linked. That factor is the custody of the child.

When a divorce case is being heard in the court of law, along with that case, the custody of the child is also decided in the same court. In many cases, one of the parents voluntarily gives away the custody of the child to the other. In these cases, the child goes through less pain and psychological pressure. Every child is not that lucky in the world. In most cases a severe fight goes on between the parents for the custody of the child, in the floor of the court. In these cases, even the child is not spared and he is also forced to come to the court to give his opinion.

Whatever might be the circumstances, the result of any divorce is that the child no longer gets the love and attention of one of the parents. The child also does not get the proper attention of the parent with whom he is living, as the parent will have to work in order to earn for their living. This gives rise to a psychological disorder known as Parent Alienation Syndrome or PAS in the child.

All over the world, the cases of PAS is increasing with the number of separations and divorces also increasing. This is creating undue pressure on the child, who is already under tremendous pressure for his studies and career. It is important for the parents to try and work out an understanding so that the child is least effected in case of a separation or divorce.
