P90x has helped thousands of people get into shape and lose weight. Of course any at home workout program is only going to be as good as the effort put into it, but the following workout tips might help you stay on the right track and succeed at achieving your goals.
1. Consult your doctor or health provider before starting. It’s great to have the motivation to start an intensive program, but your doctor can best tell you if it’s a good idea or not.
2. This is an intense workout. Nobody expects you to be able to do all of it on the first try. Take things slowly but still try to push yourself to the limits. You’ll get the maximum results from constantly pushing yourself. Even if you’re tired, try to still work as hard as you can. The host Tony Horton says, “Do your best, and forget the rest.” This is a great mantra, try to listen to it!
3. Don’t skip any workouts. Yes, the P90X workout is a 90 day program. But each day will get easier and before you know it the 90 days will be done. Sipping even one scheduled workout can hamper your motivation and can set your progress back by days.
4. Eat nutritiously. The P90X program burns a lot of calories an in order to have the stamina and energy for this program you will need to eat a healthy balanced diet. Resist the temptations for “just one” helping of something you know you shouldn’t be eating. Refined flours and sugars will hinder your ability to complete the program, so read labels carefully.
5. Eat enough. Not only is it important to eat nutritiously, but it’s equally important to eat enough. Starving yourself is only going to deprive your body of the energy it needs, and any food you do eat will be stored as fat rather than burned for fuel. Don’t deprive yourself; choose healthy snacks if you’re hungry or feeling like you need a boost.
6. Do each exercise properly. Because this system doesn’t rely on additional equipment, it’s vitally important to maintain proper form while performing each movement. It is better to do fewer reps properly than many reps improperly.
7. Take the time to do the warm up. Rushing through a workout by skipping the warm up is not going to do your body any favors. The warm up is integral to loosen muscles in preparation for a grueling workout. Skipping it can lead to injury.
