Despite of the fact that online education has made students learn virtually, having low training cost and 100% authentic degree, people still raise some questions on it.

The first thing that is criticized is the lack of communication between students and instructors during an online education program. Although claims have been made on this criticism that various techniques and methods are developed to make the gap between students and teachers lessened down, yet the question remains unanswered.

Another commonly eared comment is about an individual’s personal preference. There are different kinds of people around the world. Some like getting educated without having to follow and abide by the rules and regulations that ‘real-world’ schools and institutions force on the students, while others may like to get educated in a real classroom environment, interacting with other people in the class as well as with the teacher. So of you’re such a person, the idea of online education may not suite you.

Some people also criticize online education because they think this way a person progresses at their own pase, and this thing makes a person may be lazy or unable to work or put off the work for the next time they get enough time for it. Also, facilitators can’t track time to time progress of students. Although we’ve got forums, virtual classes etc but these all work if a person really comes over the internet and show up themselves. What if a student enrolls and never appears at the forums? That’s where the idea of ‘real-world schooling’ seems a better option. Here, students are bound to follow the rules, come everyday, no flexibilities of time and excuses are provided and moreover, the instructor gets a chance to judge each student one-on-one.

There are some misconceptions regarding online education as well. Some people believe that online education is an impersonal way of getting educated. While if you ask a student about the same thing, they’ll probably say that online education is something very rich and very personal. Interactants often make friends online which makes the class environment even more comfortable than traditional school’s classes. Further more, students say that they understand the course better than they do in traditional classes, all because of the forum discussions they get involved in an online education program.

Another question that is to be answered about online education is that it is something only meant for computer experts. Well fortunately, it’s not the case. With the emergence of various soft wares, the process of getting education online is not a big deal at least in the regard of operating the computer. You really don’t need to have very much know-how of computers. You just need to have a basic idea of the soft ware you’re using and that’s all it takes. If you still have some problems, you can always find its solution over the internet.

Yet another misconception is regarding cheating. Probably, it’s the most common one in fact; that people think online education means students passing each exam and assessment through cheating. Once again, it’s just a myth. While giving students chance to give exams at home, online education programs make sure that the assessment is fair by giving each individual an entirely different paper.

Now, for the final word, it’s entirely up to you how you interpret the idea. For my part, I’ve observed students experiencing online education, believing that it’s a whole new beginning of a new era. So, don’t be afraid, welcome yourself to the 21st century and a whole new paradigm!
