Top 10 Reasons No One Is Following You On Twitter
1. Profile Picture. Is it a picture of you? Or are you sportin the company logo. No one cares about logos. Twitter is a social site. People follow people. If they want to follow a logo they can follow the company's profile..
2. Your Name. Did you use your real name? Or are you “companyguy” or did you use “mlmcompanymom” You might have a really creative name, but these are often passed over and people follow those that have their real name, or they will once again follow the actual company.
3. Twitter is for Tweeting. Are you posting any tweets? I get a lot of followers that never tweet a thing. There’s no reason to follow back someone that doesn’t tweet. There’s nothing to gain or learn from them.
4. Spammers and Promoters. It’s ok to send out a link to a product or company…. Once in awhile. But you have to send out tweets that have value too!
5. Unfollowers. If you’re gonna follow a tweeter, stay with them unless they offend you or just aren’t providing anything worthwhile. Twitter also watches out for this. If you follow a bunch of people, and then quickly UNfollow as soon as they follow you back,,, you’re going to be flagged as suspicious, plus it’s just rude.
6. Direct Message Spam. Direct messages used to be personable, but now they're usually a sales pitch.. So I don’t take the trouble looking at them. 99% of them are automated and totally impersonal. If you're automating these, send a link to your Facebook or LinkedIn, not your company.
7. Compulsive @ Mentions. I like getting messages this way because of reason number 6. But I’m seeing spamming this way too. Being @ mentioned in the same tweet as a link to a product or promotion is rude. What’s worse is when I’m being @ mentioned by people just so they can look cool because they are mentioning someone that has a bigger presence than them in the industry. Piggy backing like this is almost worse than name dropping. It’s just as bad to do this in Facebook with tagging. Don’t put anyone’s name on something unless they are part of the subject you are sharing or it’s going to be of value to them. If you aren’t sure then don’t do it. RT a person's tweets instead, this is a compliment.
8. Profile Bio. Um, who are you? No, don’t tell me about your company, I can go follow businesses if I want to know about businesses,,, remember? Who are YOU, what makes you exceptional and remarkable to people? How to you attract attention?
9. Profile Background. You might not think this is significant. But if you look at the real leaders in network marketing, they have custom profile backgrounds with all the ways to reach them. There’s a couple that keep it simple, but those are the REAL big names that don’t need to put out their info, infact they don’t want it out there anymore because they’ve gotten too big in the industry to be getting messages from everyone.
10. Communication. Twitter is a social site. Strike up conversations through @ mentions to relate with people. Always remember that in this industry people join people. They aren’t interested in businesses and opportunities. They already have one of those, chances are it’s not working out to terrific for them. They’re looking for answers and connections with people that can help and give answers.
If you've been having trouble with no response on Twitter and no one following you back look over your profile and Tweet habits and make changes to either stop or start doing some of these things listed above.
