One of the latest releases for the PS3 is the new Batman: Arkham Asylum game that has recently been kicking up a storm in the gaming world.
The new game is a nod to the recent, darker films and comics and the gothic atmosphere in the game is a powerful reflection of these popular Batman editions.
What seems to work very well in the game is the very varied gameplay in which you encounter some excellently crafted bosses. The quality of the gameplay and graphics also help make this game one of the most popular to be released on the PS3 for a while now. The voice acting and the quality of the script also go a long way in putting this game on a different level than most.
The only slight niggling issues with Arkham Asylum is the fighting system, and there’s a lot of fighting, is very simplistic, as are a few of the puzzles that you’re asked to complete along the way. However; some of the puzzles are head-scratchingly hard so it does almost even out along the way.
The basic outline of the game, without giving too much away, is that Batman has captured the Joker and has taken him back to be incarcerated in the suitably sinister Arkham Asylum. It doesn’t take long before you realise that this is just what the Joker has wanted all along and he makes his escape, along with many other of Batman’s enemies including Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy and Croc. Batman then embarks on his journey to stop the evil plans that these supervillains have concocted.
Batman will encounter many boss battles along the way but by far the most interesting and absorbing are his battles with the Scarecrow. These imaginative and down right scary meetings really show off the game’s ability to be creative and different and they often leave Batman cowering from his own tormentuous memories that have left him scarred and vulnerable to these attacks.
Overall, this game features atmospheric action like you’ve never seen it before and will leave you desperate for more. This game is a must for Batman fans but also for those who appreciate a high-quality finish to their games and it should definitely go down as the best ever Batman game.
